BIRDMAN
1969

 

Acrylic on cotton canvas, primed with Bondcrete and white acrylic house paint.

 

Description:
With the surface sealed with Bondcrete, the colours could be applied in a thin and luminous form, as in Wall Sentinel.
The square format was distorted by shaping the orange areas as trapeziums and by painting the thin slivers of red at the left and right-hand sides.

Now in the possession of Ante Dabro, Canberrra. Swapped a small totemic sculpture of his for this painting.

Notes:
this painting in particular highlights the use of thin triangular pieces to fractured picture space. This stems back to print such a full speed with a thin upright beams split the space.
